Ghost Ships, General
I have always been fascinated by ghost ships. I often as a little boy dreamt of finding one, boarding the derelict ship and facing whatever may be still below decks. I even kept an eye out for them anytime my Submarine was on the surface. But what is a Ghost ship?
Ghost ships make up a large part of the seafaring lore that has been passed down throughout the years. The term Ghost ship is interchangeable with phantom ship. One meaning of ghost ship are spectral apparitions of ships that materialize on the horizon before quickly disappearing. Sailors believe they are sign of bad things to come. The term is also used to describe abandoned vessels that are found adrift with no crew or passengers. There are tales of captains who cursed the fates and are doomed to sail for eternity. There are tales of murders and worse on board that cause the crew to not rest. There are tales of spectral crews that were lured to their deaths by breakers onshore lighting false lights, they seek revenge for their doom.
These ships have been seen by sailors since almost the time sailing was invented. They are in ships log books from antiquity. I myself have never seen one of the spectral versions, though t the merely abandoned ships bobbing about are eerie enough. I hope to, I figure if the Prince of Wales can get to see one, I should as well.
We at Night Watch Paranormal will be posting stories of some of the more famous sightings of these ships.
