The Green Gables, Lewistown PA
by Andy Hagerty
On the south side of town, just before the Lewistown narrows sits the Historic Green Gables hotel. The original building was built in 1931 as a 22
room hotel with a bar, lounge and a restaurant. There was a 20 room free standing addition added in 1966.
The Gables is currently unavailable as ownership of the location is unclear. However there is a lot of stories in the community on this location and we at NightWatch Paranormal are in the process of collecting them for the site.
Some of the common tales are of a ghost in the kitchen that likes to move things around. This includes items as small as utensils to larger furniture. There is also stories of a woman ghost who specifically likes the walk in cooler and will whisper “turn off the lights“ to people who enter. She also has disrupted the kitchen on multiple occasions. Speaking to someone who was there during a Sheriff’s auction, apparently the cooler itself has been sold and removed, we wonder if the lady went with it.
There are reports of other entities in other areas of the Gables. In the parking lot and second floor a skinny black ghost by
the name of George has been reported. We received this from one of our readers " My husband played in a band. Only the dinning room and bar were open but the owner let us - the band- stay the night in the rooms. We all could not get out of there fast enough in the morning! I saw the tall skinny black man standing at the foot of the bed watching us ."
There are also a set of children in the main lobby. The pair is of a boy and a girl. One of the more annoying to the staff was a banquet cart that would purposefully be in random places in the hotel, as long as that place was where it was not supposed to be located. There is also a report of a small entity by the fireplace.
We hope to track down more stories and share them shortly. We really hope to be allowed to bring our team in and meet each of the 4 reported ghosts and see if any new "guests" have checked in.
We had a story shared with us via Facebook that the last owners children have been seen playing with and talking to spirit entities. WE hope to meet up with the parents to document their story.
