Academia girl’s school, Academia, Juniata County, PA
by Andy Hagerty
This is a location that has a lot of history, but not really any of it verifiable on line. We however have a lot of people come forward with stuff they have photographed or recorded over the years offer to share their evidence. We will be trying to check out as much of it as possible.
Lore:
Late 1800’s the school building was destroyed in a fire. Some legends state it was done by a mysterious hired hand. Some legends states it was done by the gardener after he killed and potentially raped a number of the students. This tale also places the bodies buried in a nearby field. The ghosts of the girls allegedly will chase you if you're on the grounds.
Another legend says the girls all died from the plague or some other ailment and sometimes you can hear them singing London Bridges.
The ghost of the killer is supposed to sit on the steps of a nearby church. He is reportedly dressed in all black.
There are tales of hearing ghostly sobbing of girls. Also of a single girl singing
There is apparently black hound sightings in the area.
Cars are reported to have trouble starting in the area. Brand new batteries also get drained for no reason.
There is a reportedly curse on the land. The stories state if you climbed up the stairs of the remaining school building and put your name
on the wall, you'll die within 5 tears. It's alleged that there are three names written on it, and they're all of high school kids that met premature ends. One of those names was a person who drowned in Raystown lake within the 5 year period. This building may no longer be standing, so the curse may no longer be in effect.
A third party eyewitness account of the location” Really eerie. I know how to get there if ya'll would like to investigate it. Ya can't go into the
building itself cuz it's falling down. But the grounds and building I believe are haunted. Sensed something but don't know what. Spirits are trapped. I've
experienced sweaty palms, hair standing up, can hear the girls screaming in my head, other people I know have experienced hand prints on their body. I hope I don't sound crazy but I've seen orbs there.” (note: due to vandalism, the school building burned down)
We at NightWatch have not yet been to this location. We hope to get permission to check it out sometime soon. Until then, if anyone has information or stories about the old girls school, please feel free to share.
