Quequechan Club, Fall River, MA
By : Andrew Hagerty
Fall River Massachusetts may be famous for the Borden Murders, but there are other lesser known haunted happenings in the area. You would expect a place that started as an outlying village of the Plymouth colony in the 1600’s to have a bit of history and maybe a few haunting. Indian wars, fights with the British during the war of independence and war of 1812, Pirates stopping by, the normal flow of humanity in a large seaport, all add up to potential unfinished business.
The Quequechan club has had several owners and many members in its 100 year plus history. The location started as a private residence, became a club with a bed and breakfast, hosted the east coasts oldest bowling league, reportedly had a brothel upstairs, turned more into a restaurant and is currently a banquet hall like facility.

The building itself was built in 1861. When it was bought as a club house in 1894, it was known as the William Mason mansion. The club was incorporated on Dec 15th, 1894. The building was then renovated and enlarged to the present clubhouse, the addition of the dining room and west side columns were performed in 1910. In 1920 the property on the south side was purchased and the “ladies annex” was built. This part of the house is also known as the Priscilla Rooms. Interestingly, the bowling alleys in the basement were built in 1895 and are still in use today. The club appears to be open after closing in 2012 from lack of membership. It seems to have been reopened under new management.

The Club was owned by a sole proprietor prior to its 2012 closing. He had paranormal experiences while he owned it during that period. He related to a paranormal team in 2006, that a friend of his had seen a woman all in white in Victorian dress pass him. The group captured EVP evidence and orb photographs in their investigation. Others people at various times claimed to have seen the woman in white.
Another group in 2009 captured what they claim is the rape of a person they named Marie in the third floor brothel area. They have several EVP’s in the area with screams and other activity.
We wonder if the often sighted woman in white and the possible rape of the entity known as Marie are one and the same.
Many groups appear to have had the opportunity to investigate this location under the prior ownership. It is unclear if the new ownership is interested in talking to paranormal groups. It is our hope at Nightwatch Paranormal that they are and local groups will continue to try to find rest for this woman in white. We are a bit far for our own investigation so we would love to hear more from groups or people that have had experiences at this grand location.
